Oakville is home to about 165,000 people and similar to Burlington in many ways. Like Burlington, Oakville is considered a bedroom community, with many people preferring this attractive lakeside city over living in downtown Toronto. Commuters love Oakville's prime location which provides easy to access to other cities including Burlington, Hamilton, Mississauga and several other GTA cities. With GO Train access to downtown Toronto, people can live comfortably in Oakville and be to work in 35 minutes.
Finding an apartment in Oakville may have its challenges. Rental rates are quite high compared to most other cities of similar size in Ontario. There is however a fairly good selection of apartments to choose from so take your time when searching. With a little luck, you'll able to find a great apartment in the location you want.
Oakville is essentially cut in half by the QEW. You have the downtown area on the east side of the QEW where you will find many of the high priced apartments in Oakville. Much like Burlington, Oakville is located along the shores of Lake Ontario and features a vibrant downtown full of apartments, condos, shops and restaurants. A large number of apartments are located in this area and prices are high but often feature lake views.
If you would prefer to be on the west side of the QEW, look for an apartment in the Trafalgar Road area. Oakville place is Oakville's largest shopping mall is can be found at Trafalgar Road and the QEW. There are a number of apartment in this area to choose from. Typically, rental rates will be lower in this area than in the downtown area.
Oakville offers excellent highway access. Trafalgar Road is a main artery that offers access to the QEW, Hwy 5 and Hwy 407. Dorval Road is another main road within the city that offers easy access to the QEW.
If you choose an apartment on the west side of the QEW you have the benefit of being able to easily access Hwy 407. Note: Hwy 407 is a toll highway and can be rather costly to travel on. While it can be expensive to use, it does provide a fast and reliable route to locations in the north end of Toronto all the way to Oshawa.
When compared to other cities of similar size such as St. Catharines and Oshawa, apartments in Oakville are very expensive. One bedroom apartments can cost anywhere from $875 per month to about $1,150. Two bedroom apartments typically start at $950 per month but can easily cost as much as $1,400. That's the price you pay to live in a beautiful lakeside community with outstanding access to downtown Toronto.
Oakville is mostly a retail city with many fine shops and restaurants for you to explore and find work at. The real benefit of living in Oakville is that you can enjoy a fantastic lifestyle while working in another city nearby such as Mississauga or Toronto. With an easy commute by car or on the GO Train, jobs in cities such as Hamilton, Mississauga and Toronto are possible.
Oakville is a very safe city. Crime is low and there are few if any trouble areas in the city. The downtown is full of life with few empty shops which is great for keeping crime to a minimum.

Oakville is located in close proximity to Hamilton, Burlington, Mississauga and Toronto. Oakville apartment prices are most comparable to Burlington's. Hamilton apartments by comparison cost much less than Oakville apartments but may be more convenient if this is where your job is located. Looking for an apartment in Mississauga will open up more options and perhaps some better prices however won't offer the same lifestyle opportunities you can get in Oakville. Toronto has an enormous number of apartments to select from. Choosing an apartment in Toronto often comes down to location and price, with renters often wanting to live close to their jobs.
